Soheil Soheili (b.1983) is an interdisciplinary artist and a researcher. His background includes learning music from an early age and studying mathematics/ engineering. He started learning traditional Persian music from his father, then experienced western musical instruments, namely guitars and the bass when he left the engineering classes for good. He started his serious career in the field of music as a musician in Patriam band – an independent jam band in Tehran (2002).
As both a recording artist and a performer, he possesses numerous experiences ranging from deejaying in skateparks to preparing the sound for large commercial live shows and complex interaction design for the audio and video performances. He works with different media, including the medium of text, sound – it’s absence – and the video, this way he never reduces himself to a certain discipline or genre, whether in the field of science or culture. His education includes English language and literature, as his works usually deal with a philosophical idea, a social demand or accurate statistics/ sets of mathematical data. As an educated author and translator, his research interests include psychology, linguistics, history, sociology beyond producing or reproducing sounds.
Now, behind the active participation in the art-scene and membership in a number of nonprofits and collectives for the research and development, most notably the New Media Society and Iranian Musicians Union, he also co-manages ‘Noise À Noise‘ an independent internet-based label for experimental music in Tehran. Human welfare, anti-war movements, extreme sports, youth empowerment trends are some of the other causes that he supports after all. Below, you can find a selected list of the activity:
